|One Little Goat Theatre Company Inc.||PLAY: A (Mini) History of Theatre for Kids||This performance provides an introduction to theatre by providing a short history of theatre and plays from around the world, in person or virtually. Two actors use children’s games, drama, storytelling, music, and dance and to take students on a theatrical journey through four different periods of drama: early beginnings with prehistoric games around the fire, ancient Greek Tragedy, Japanese Noh Theatre and Modern Theatre. Following the performance a Q&A provides opportunity for students to have a conversation with the artists. A follow-up learning resource is available for teachers to continue the learning afterwards.|

|Food Sharks||The Food Mood Connection||This nutrition workshop helps students to understand how food plays a significant role in their mood and overall mental and physical health. Facilitator discusses the fundamentals of a healthy diet, foods that support well-being, and how media and marketing industries influence nutritional choices. Students learn to read and understand food labels and nutritional facts to ultimately gain knowledge to make informed, healthy food choices. |Emil Sher||Unpacking the Holocaust: A Playwright's Journey||This multimedia presentation weaves still images and video footage from the acclaimed stage production of Hana's Suitcase, which chronicles the short life of a girl killed in Auschwitz. What are the challenges, the choices, the considerations when history is honoured and dramatized on stage? How far into the darkness of the Holocaust do you go when children are in the audience? How can sets, costumes, masks, slides and silence give voice to an unspeakable tragedy? These are some of the questions that are explored by playwright Emil Sher in a presentation that is capped by a discussion where students are tasked with making a moral choice about who to shelter in wartime. Students also learn about the creative process in transforming history into a stage play and the connections between art and history.|

Weiss||Gary's Global Heroes Battle Bullying Comic||This media literacy workshop introduces the use of a comic book as storytelling art form using messaging on bullying and diversity and inclusion issues. Workshops delivered in-person or virtually. Facilitators help students to understand messages constructed through text and illustrations and how to analyze the different voices, perspectives, and messages. The comic characters show real life examples and stories of bullying and prejudice. Students develop literacy skills through reading, writing and creating their own illustrations as well as reinforce the strategies to combat bullying. |
|No. 9 ||Imagining My Sustainable Community||This interdisciplinary program enhances literacy through an architecture and urban design project for grade 7&8 classes. Students walk through their community to observe, discuss, and document (using photography and sketching) the way the community functions. Students learn about infrastructure and design and the 9 Pillars that make up a sustainable community. These are: waste management, water management, green building design, alternative energy, transportation, public art & design, green space, agriculture and food security and civic engagement and leadership. They discuss sustainability issues and develop ecologically sustainable models to address these issues in their community. 3D models of their community are built to scale using a variety of construction materials. The culminating event is a display and showcase of the model to their local councillor, school board trustee, visiting dignitaries, parents and peers. In this project are curriculum connections to visual arts, science, math, engineering, geography, language arts and media studies. |
|Scarborough Rotary Passport Club||Brush-a-mania||This interactive in-person or virtual presentation is delivered to elementary students to promote good oral health every April which is proclaimed Oral Health Month. Dentist and Rotarians visit schools to provide information on proper brushing and flossing techniques, good oral hygiene practice, and healthy eating. Students each receive a toothbrush to practise brushing their teeth, answer questions about brushing and have the opportunity to ask questions to the dentist. Students, teachers and parents are also invited to track students daily brushing habits in-class, and at home via an online 'brushtracker'. |

|Vujade Entertainment Inc.||Creature Shop||This hands-on workshop teaches students motion picture special effect techniques to create their own animatronic creation. Students handle and explore the simple machines that give the illusion that puppets are alive including mechanical pulleys, push-pull rods, gears and gear chains. Students learn different kinds of special effects, comparing computer generated effects to floor effects. Students build their own animatronic creation. |Coco Collective||Africanist Dance: Then and Now||This hands-on dance series ties history, politics and socio-cultural realities to the rhythm and movements of dance genres across African and Caribbean communities for grades 4-12. Sessions are offered in-person or virtually. Through dance languages from the West African region, Caribbean and North America, students learn dance narratives, musicality and dance functions tied to cultural histories and evolution. This culturally-responsive dance program is a safe space for students to engage in contemporary dialogue on misconceptions, stereotypes, share positive cultural identity, and acquire understandings and of structure and functions of some diasporic dances rooted in Sub-Saharan West African, Ghanaian, Trinidadian and Jamaican communities. Schools may choose two workshops from the following genres: traditional African, Kpanlogo, Dancehall, Soca, Afrobeats and Afro-Dancehall.|
|Peach Berserk||Fabric Design and Silkscreen||This hands-on arts workshop introduces students to fabric design and screen printing by up-cycling students’ own clothes. Facilitators teach ways to design a print, fabric design process and the basics of photo emulsion screen printing as well as information on the design and fashion industry. Students create their own designs on paper, transfer their design onto a piece of pre-owned garment to create a small silkscreen product at the end of the workshop. Facilitator assists schools to setup a simple screen print studio for students to continue the learning. These highly engaging and interactive sessions are creatively available through video-conferencing as well as in-person. |
|University of Toronto||Community Academic Mentorship Program ||This free program matches University of Toronto student volunteers with TDSB students to provide academic support and mentorship opportunities at select secondary schools. Through one-on-one support, post-secondary mentors build relationships with students and help to provide academic support in mathematics, science, and English. Mentors also provide information on post-secondary life, goals and pathways. The program aims to support TDSB students in the areas of student well-being and achievement especially for those students that come from communities that are underrepresented at post-secondary institutions. |
|Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre||Green Change||This free program enhances ecological literacy through a park design project for elementary schools, in-person or virtually. Students learn design components of a public space as well as equitable, ecological and sustainable models to address community need. Students identify problems in their local park using a design-thinking process and facilitators guide students to take concrete steps to address the issues and work to a solution. Program entails exploring and documenting the space (photography and sketching), creating surveys for class participation, sketching a prototype of their impact project, and presentation of the impact project to the school community. To help schools build capacity following project completion, facilitators support teachers to expand or modify the program in the second year and have regular check-ins. |
|Ballet Jorgen||Ballet 101||This free and interactive ballet workshop introduces students to the performing arts and history of classical dance. Students witness high-quality professional dance while also learning the history of ballet, and how dance is used as a storytelling medium. Excerpts from ballets performed by 3-6 professional dancers, inspire, enrich, and connect with students as they learn basic ballet positions, and explore and discover their own unique ways of creatively conveying their emotions through movement and choreography.|
|Seedling Stories||Hands in the Garden||This food and garden program allows students to get their hands dirty while gardening, growing food, and learning about the natural environment and sustainability. Students learn and explore plant life cycles, biodiversity, composting, garden creatures, measuring and mapping garden beds, people involved in the food system, harvesting and creating simple snacks, and writing poems and creating skits about the garden. Through this hands-on program, students apply concepts they have learned in class in practical and direct ways. With a variety of workshops to choose from, some may be delivered virtually, this program is suitable for early years and elementary students and is offered in both French and English. Many of the workshops offered by this program do not require schools to have a garden and are available throughout the school year. |
|OWLware Ltd.||Accessibility Now||This experiential learning program provides opportunities for students with or without special needs focused on school to work initiatives in creative industries, social media, podcasting and film production. The studio experience is brought into the classroom (virtually or in-person) where students are mentored by industry experts to produce a podcast and or YouTube segment for the program, “Accessibility Now” and podcast “Disability Den”. Students discuss accessibility issues and compliance solutions that are relevant to them, identify disability awareness topics to highlight and, using professional studio equipment/virtual industry software create a short video or podcast from pre-production to completion including marketing materials. Students with developmental disabilities learn various digital disciplines consisting of studio production, hosting, digital editing, podcast development, producing a show and promotion via social media channels. |Toronto Inner City Rugby Association Inc||Rugby Professional Learning and Skills Development||This enhanced physical education program provides rugby training, tournament participation, and curriculum resources to students and teachers. Accredited and experienced rugby program staff lead workshops to introduce and further enhance rugby skills. Rugby activities and games for understanding are based on the physical literacy ABC's of agility, balance, coordination and speed. Beginner students are introduced to the sport through a non-contact, safe game called Rookie Rugby. Advanced students or those that have a solid understanding of the fundamentals, further develop core rugby skills such as movement, passing and communication and sport specific training. Teachers receive curriculum resources that contain 8 modules that provide activities on how to implement the program beyond the workshop. Schools that have participated in workshops have the opportunity to attend an international rugby tournament at BMO Field or participate in a flag rugby tournament when available.|
|Tricia Bentley||The Little Fig Children's Writing Virtual Workshops||This English Literacy virtual writing workshop incorporates individual and group activities to strengthen writing, language, and analytical skills. Some workshops use a narrative, The Hero’s Journey, as a guideline to teach students about story development and encourage them to express themselves to develop their very own story. Other workshops may use the structure of a first person essay narrative to tell the personal story of the student through memoir style writing. For the younger grades, sessions consist of creating a story collaboratively and then performing the story in a play-like presentation. During the process students will learn the art of storytelling by establishing the following: Who is the Hero? What does the Hero want? Why can't the hero get what he/she wants? The Facilitator will work with the teacher prior to the first session to establish relevant curriculum related readings and topics for this creative writing workshop.|

|Archi[kid] Inc.||Play, Explore, DESIGN||These workshops use architecture, math, geometry to build on the design process and develop conceptual ideas into 3D models. Fundamental tools such as patterns, growth, geometric shapes and measurements are used to make connections to real-life examples. Students are exposed to different materials, large scale models, sketching and writing to incorporate a full sensory experience. For elementary grades, students become familiar with the basic concepts and characteristics of shapes, how to explore and play with them to create something new. More advanced students are engaged in experimentation using observation, questioning, creativity and more importantly design thinking. Facilitators will also share jobs and careers using math literacy and design. Workshops are also delivered in French.
|Paul Stewart ||The Pottery Clay Workshops||These workshops engage students with the creation of clay sculpture and story development. Students explore their own artistic nature and telling their own stories through art. They learn how to plan, design and create clay pieces. The theme and focus of each art project is determined in partner consultation with classroom teachers to ensure curriculum connections, and with the students themselves to ensure connection to their interests. The finished pieces are fired and delivered back to schools within three weeks of the workshop.|

They also address stigmas that may be associated with choosing these pathways, and encourage students to explore their interests. Students find out how to acquire preparatory skills, experiences and exposure to various skilled trades' pathways. A focus on increasing the number of young women and Indigenous Youth who enter skilled trades is emphasized through these sessions and additional experiential learning opportunities. |Create the Change||Dance the Change||These unique and interactive dance workshops integrate the performing and literary arts to teach students choreography that guides them to artistically express a story. Delivered in-person or through video-conferencing, professional performing artists engage students in activities on movement, character development, and story-telling through dance that also enhances drama curriculum. Using prompts from literature or theatre pieces, elementary students from Kindergarten to Grade Eight build empathy, cultivate compassion, and express themselves artistically. In addition to collaborative performance, students engage in writing a reflection from the point-of-view of a character in their story.|
|Lumenus Community Services||School Focused Direct Access Workers (SFW)||These specialized Lumenus staff work collaboratively with TDSB Professional Support Services to provide an accessible counselling service that takes place in the home, in school or in the community for youth with mental health issues. Lumenus staff works with the children/youth and their family/support people to support their optimal functioning and sense of belonging in the school and neighbourhood community, based on goals established within the child/youth’s treatment plan. Students and/or family members have direct access to these resources through established TDSB referral mechanisms; and can access services when on site in school/s. Lumenus staff are also available to consult with school staff, as needed. The School Focused Direct Access Workers may support the children/youth to connect with appropriate community resources and services; and support students during the instructional day to decrease barriers and stigma regarding accessing mental health supports.|

Sessions also highlight an equity lens: the learning anxiety with which students may come to school that is reflective of increased stress levels associated with gender, race, sense of self-efficacy, and other intersectionalities. |David Powell||Gamelan Music||These hands-on workshops for select schools introduce students and teachers to rich percussion music traditions of Java, Indonesia. The word gamelan comes from the Javanese word ‘gamel’ which means hammer. Workshops bring together the intricate, interlocking parts played by the underlying gong patterns, the melodic matallophones, the decorating instruments, and driving/leading drums. David Powell guides teachers on pedagogy and teaching strategies to successfully incorporate these instruments in the musical learning.
These workshops are an enhancement to TDSB Community Music Program for those schools that wish to further enhance their learning beyond the three classroom visits.
|Theatricks Theatre Co.||All About Acting||These fun and engaging workshops tailor-made for elementary students encourage active participation and develop and strengthen practical skills in drama in an environment conducive to their discovery and growth. Primary students are introduced to the basic skills of drama and acting by learning about character development, scene creation, and plot development as they explore the elements of dramatic expression. Junior students build upon their drama experience by indulging in their own capacities for creativity as they develop the necessary skills for improvisational acting. By developing skills in improvisation, students increase their self-confidence and teamwork, as well as their ability to express themselves publicly. Participants explore potential health risk while deepening their understanding of various strategies for reducing risks. The presentations will also raise awareness of Health Canada and its resources on environmental health. |
|Elisa Birnbaum||SEE Change Magazine_History of Social Change Workshops||These distinctive workshops develop students' appreciation for Canada’s unique struggles for social justice and the rights and freedoms we enjoy, while sharpening their literacy and storytelling skills. Leveraging the History of Social Change Multimedia Project (digital stories and e-book documenting social movements and key players), sponsored by Heritage Canada, and other online sources, these workshops will demonstrate how our lives were transformed by social movements and their key players. The facilitator (a veteran journalist) will provide a lesson in journalism before leading the class through an interactive activity. By the end of the workshop, students have honed their literacy and verbal and written communication skills, developed their capacity for advocacy and gained a deeper grasp of social issues in Canadian history and their impact on present day.|

Led by faculty staff or industry partners, all sessions can be delivered virtually through video-conferencing or in-person. |Green Communities Association||School Traffic Safety||The School Traffic Safety program provides assistance to select schools that are experiencing traffic congestion and traffic safety concerns on and around their school site. Select schools work with a facilitator who investigates and responds to traffic related concerns and provide traffic safety support. The program offers workable solutions to identified safety concerns and schools receive a comprehensive School Action Plan, Routes to School map and other strategies and tools to provide students and families with information about safe routes and active transportation options.
The School Traffic Safety program applies a comprehensive approach to traffic safety management. By engaging a wide-range of stakeholders that include the school board, municipal transportation planners and engineers, public health, police, parents, students and school staff, workable solutions are found. The program supports TDSB’s Charter for Active, Safe and Sustainable Transportation and Implementation Plan.|

Topics include helmet fit, safety checks on bicycles, the Highway Traffic Act, awareness of other road users, the City of Toronto Cycling Map, and the basic physical skills of bicycling. |Little Red Theatre||Touring Theatre for Children||The magic of theatre comes to life in these dramatic performances using an eclectic mix of puppets, original musical scores and songs, dance and audio and visual technology for elementary students. Productions are inspired by current issues, books that children love or problems that are relevant to children. Students may participate in the actual performance or participate in the question and answer at the end. Each year three shows are offered in English, French or Bilingual; each show is completely different and unique.|

|Regesh Family & Child Services||Regesh High on Success||The innovative school-based program supports students to develop healthy self-esteem, decision-making, self-regulation, and interpersonal and communication skills, in-person or virtually. Students engage in improving their academic performance. Regesh High on Success is delivered up to 20 weeks and uses small group activities for students to develop new and supportive relationships that help them to be successful. Students also learn skills to increase their self-esteem, manage anger, enhance mental health and help them connect with their teachers and family.|
|South Riverdale CHC||South Riverdale Health Clinic_CALC||The health clinic provides quality clinical and social programs and services to adult students at City Adult Learning Centre. In consultation with staff and students, low-threshold access to clinical and care coordination is available, and engages students and community partners in the development of appropriate programming with the vision to improve the lives of students facing barriers to their physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. Core services being provided to CALC include: A weekly drop in clinic led by a Nurse Practitioner (1 day), case management by a Client Care Coordinator (2.5 days), and annual flu clinics and TB screening. Group sessions which are delivered alongside CALC staff include: Sexual health in collaboration with Biology classes, strategies in self-care such as how to eat healthy on a budget, positive parenting, and housing support in partnership with housing/settlement workers.|

Grief & Loss bereavement counselling is also available, especially designed for referred youth who are encountering a substance related death of a loved one. Breakaway staff offer expertise related to drug use, and reducing drug related harms and impacts. Services offered include individual and group counselling, assessments, class-room education and consultations, as well as parent council presentations and staff education. |The Earth Rangers Foundation||Earth Rangers Assembly||The Earth Rangers Assembly offers an engaging and interactive presentation bringing concepts of science and biodiversity from the real world into the classroom, in person and via video-conferencing. Using live Animal Ambassadors including reptiles, mammals and birds to connect with students, the hour-long assembly teaches students to develop empathy for wildlife and to support protecting animals and their habitats. Students learn about threatened Canadian species, the importance of protecting the environment and adopting more sustainable behaviours. Earth Rangers provide supplementary environmental information on how to make a difference through tangible activities and conservation projects for students to complete at home. |Isaac Akrong||African Dance Ensemble (ADE): Dance, Drumming, Music, and Stories||The cultural history, meaning and context of African music and dance comes alive in these presentations and workshops to the school community. The group performs a number of pieces from their repertoire which spans the continent of Africa, specialization in West Africa. The performance incorporates rich and vibrant costumes, beads, masks, and instruments such as a variety of types of drums, xylophone, shaker, bell and flute. Workshop series and residencies are available for those classes that wish to develop and perform a polished performance piece. All instruments are provided and facilitator demonstrates the song, rhythm and dance so each student has the opportunity to participate in playing, dancing and singing. |Holland Bloorview Hospital||Communication and Writing Aids Service||The Communication and Writing Aids Service (CWAS) program includes an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) service and a Writing Aids (WA) service. AAC provides consultative support to children in the classroom and at home when their speech does not meet their face-to-face communication needs. WA provides technological support (laptop and specialized software) to children who use natural speech as their primary means of communication, but are unable, due to a physical disability, to write with pen and paper functionally. Students who use AAC may also need a WA. Holland Bloorview CWA staff collaborate with the TDSB School Support Team (SST), including the Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational and/or Physical Therapist, Principal, and teacher to determine an appropriate AAC and/or WA system and to facilitate the mutually agreed upon system into the classroom. |

In partnership with the TDSB since 1982, all public school students from the TDSB and other Boards are registered at Don Mills Cl while in attendance at the Ontario Science School. It provides students with community, social and career connections to events, organizations, conferences and other projects beyond school to support their personal and academic development in the community. It engages all grades, with a particular emphasis on encouraging participation from Grade 9 & 10 students. Grade 10 students who continue as participants to gradually assume mentoring roles as they progress into Grade 11 & 12. Specific student leadership sessions are designed to train students for peer-to-peer mentoring roles. Homework help, food and recreational activities are also scheduled outside of the instructional day.

|Shakespeare In Action||Interactive Shakespeare||Students will experience Shakespeare and drama in fun, new, and accessible ways in these experiential performing arts workshops for elementary, middle, and high-school students. Workshops include ESL Shakespeare, Masterclass (English focus), Page to Stage (Drama focus), Shakespeare Rap, and Future Shakespeare (where students experience a play in a single classroom period). Professional actor-educators show how to discover, analyze, and reimagine the meanings of language as students engage in interactive language exercises, group translation, and storytelling activities in order to decode Shakespearean text and remove the language barrier often associated with his works. |Green Thumbs Growing Kids||Urban Trees From Seed||Students plant and nurture urban-tolerant native species of trees, from seed that they collect or is collected locally from mature trees. Delivery in-person or by video-conferencing, this project enhances student learning in citizen science, biodiversity and environmental stewardship. Facilitated by an Indigenous garden educator who provides knowledge on a variety of native tree species including one with the Anishnaabemowin name, Giidaga biizhou aatig, also known as the Kentucky Coffee Tree. Younger students plant the tree from seed and older students pot the seedlings, take care and plant the seedling in a forever home.|
|ICTC||Digital DASH||Students participate in exploratory learning activities to enhance digital competencies that will open pathways towards digital careers. Activities recreate authentic scenarios to engage students to practise their critical thinking in order to solve a problem while thinking of the consequences of the solution. A variety of workshops provide knowledge on the areas of information and communications technology (ICT), cyber arts, and business skills. Students also have an opportunity to meet industry experts, gain practical industry knowledge and learn about current and emerging STEM careers and pathways in ICT. |PEACE BY PEACE||Building Skills in Conflict Resolution||Students learn to prevent, manage and resolve conflicts in positive ways in their lives, schools and communities. Using games, activities, and critical discussions, the program engages students and provides them with practical conflict resolution techniques. Students enhance their effective communication, negotiation and critical thinking skills. Topics include: skills for exploring and resolving conflict; effective communication; appreciating diversity; inner power/self-esteem; dealing with bullying and cyberbullying; thinking critically about the media; community building. Program is offered in French and bilingual classes.
|Beat the Streets||Wrestle 4 Fun_Virtual Sessions||Students learn fundamentals from top-level Canadian wrestlers in this character-building and life skills workshop through the sport of wrestling. Virtual workshops are based on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model and designed to introduce wrestling and drills to improve movement skills, agility, balance and coordination while providing no-contact delivery. For older students, workshops build positive character traits, coping strategies, building positive self-image and personal resiliency while providing a constructive and safe way to redirect energy through sport. Students learn time management, respecting others, friendly competition, rules and guidelines through the introduction to wrestling that all transfer to the classroom. Professional learning and certification are available to staff.|
|MADD Canada||SmartWheels||Students learn about the harmful risks associated with alcohol and drug use and impaired driving. Presentations are available in person on a mobile RV, in class, or via video conference; and can be delivered in French. They feature videos about the effects of alcohol and substance use such as cannabis. Students put on virtual reality goggles (in the RV or in class formats) and in the case of video conferencing, students view a virtual reality video to see how it looks and feels to drive while impaired. All presentations include students participating in multiple choice questions and in decision-making scenarios about impaired driving. These sessions not only increase awareness about the consequences of impaired driving, but also influence responsible decision-making and provide safety strategies. |
|Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Adv||Kouraba Foli||Students have a rare opportunity to experience authentic West African music traditions, oral histories and dance from an ancestral perspective delivered by Master percussionists, dancers and musicians. These in-person or by video-conferencing sessions utilize multi-media, storytelling, singing, live performance and art demonstrations. The foundation of these sessions are formed on the four pillars of Character Education: Discipline, Respect, Unity, and Music (D.R.U.M.). Drumming or dance workshops allow students to work in smaller groups to actively participate in music making, interactive play and dance while learning traditional songs that tell a story. Also delivered in French and up to four distinct West African languages. Suitable but not limited to Black History month.
