|One Little Goat Theatre Company||PLAY: A (Mini) History of Theatre for Kids||This performance provides a short history of theatre and plays from around the world. Two actors use children’s games, drama, storytelling, music, and dance and to take students on a theatrical journey through four different periods of drama: early beginnings with prehistoric games around the fire, ancient Greek Tragedy, Japanese Noah Theatre and Modern Theatre. Following the presentation a question and answer period allows students to engage a conversation with artists. A follow-up learning resource is available for teachers to continue the learning afterwards. This is an entertaining presentation that honours the natural playfulness of childhood and provides students with an introduction to theatre. |

|From Far & Wide||We Are The North||This musical theatre performance within a newcomer story-line touches on the themes of respect, inclusion, diversity and collaboration. This performance uses original songs, drama and music to describe the story of newcomer and how the student overcomes struggles and challenges. Characters will provide positive role modelling, encourage self-confidence and self-worth, and show how students can reach out for help and work together to resolve conflicts. Professional songwriters perform original songs that students can sing along to. A follow-up parent presentation is available. |
|Emil Sher||Unpacking the Holocaust: A Playwright's Journey||This multimedia presentation weaves still images and video footage from the acclaimed stage production of Hana's Suitcase, which chronicles the short life of a girl killed in Auschwitz. What are the challenges, the choices, the considerations when history is honoured and dramatized on stage? How far into the darkness of the Holocaust do you go when children are in the audience? How can sets, costumes, masks, slides and silence give voice to an unspeakable tragedy? These are some of the questions that are explored by playwright Emil Sher in a presentation that is capped by a discussion where students are tasked with making a moral choice about who to shelter in wartime. Students also learn about the creative process in transforming history into a stage play and the connections between art and history.|

Weiss Comics)||Gary's Global Heroes Battle Bullying Comic||This media literacy workshop introduces the use of a comic book as storytelling art form using messaging on bullying and diversity and inclusion issues. Facilitators help students to understand messages constructed through text and illustrations and how to analyze the different voices, perspectives, and messages. The comic characters show real life examples and stories of bullying and prejudice. Students develop literacy skills through reading, writing and creating their own illustrations as well as reinforce the strategies to combat bullying. |
|Sage Tyrtle Storyteller||Learning To Tell Compelling Stories||This literacy workshop focuses on finding each student’s personal storytelling voice. The storyteller discusses storytelling structure, elements to engage the audience, character development, and most importantly: making every single word count. The facilitator will deliver history about the people that played a significant role in STEM fields while students interact with exhibited artifacts. |Living Rhythm||Drumming to Well Being||This interactive rhythm-based workshop explores drumming to increase mental health and well being for students and teachers. Students learn mindfulness strategies and techniques through pulse, breath and visualization, enhanced communication skills including active listening and cooperation with peers, and community building and leadership skills. Using drums and their own bodies and other sounds, this workshop engages different learners. Students and teachers will learn tools and ideas on ways to reduce stress and build connection with their peers to build a safe and positive community. Displays, props, pictures and hands-on activities are used to enhance the learning. Students will also learn the animals' role in the eco-system an how to care for animals in our environment. |Scarborough Rotary Passport Club||Brush-A-Mania||This interactive presentation delivered to elementary students to promote good oral health every April which is proclaimed Oral Health Month. Dentist Rotarians visit schools to provide information on proper brushing and flossing techniques, good oral hygiene practice, and healthy eating. Students each receive a toothbrush to practise brushing their teeth, answer questions about brushing and have the opportunity to ask questions to the dentist. Students, teachers and parents are also invited to track students daily brushing habits in-class, and at home via an online 'brushtracker'. |

Themes of respect, empathy, leadership, and resilience are covered. A band of musicians share personal stories of overcoming life challenges while performing original hip hop songs and dramatic skits. Students learn strategies to address bullying, develop better communication and coping strategies and foster well-being for oneself and others. |Voice of Purpose||On the Horizon - Spoken Word Poetry for Personal Development||This interactive arts workshop uses creating and performing spoken word poetry to help students explore and unpack their personal identities and purpose within the context of culture, society, and historical legacy. |University of Toronto||Masters of Teaching In-Residence Program||This in-residence program embeds one cohort of OISE Primary-Junior Master of Teaching students, dedicated to Environmentally Sustainable Education (ESE), in Ryerson Community School as a TDSB Eco-School. OISE faculty have use of a classroom space at the school in order to provide classes to their Master of Teaching students. Master of Teaching students in this cohort undertake some of their own class work, and some of their practicum experience at the school, in order to learn alongside the experienced EcoSchools Associate Teachers supporting the work that they do. As part of their in-residence practicum, Master of Teaching students will be invited to share their lesson plans related to ESE; and suitable plans will be posted on the TDSB EcoSchools website.|

|Hands on Exotics Inc.||Amazing Living World of Birds||This highly interactive presentation takes students on an avian tour around the world using a variety of species of birds. By being presented with multiple species of birds up close and personal, students hold, pet, feed and observe the animals' behaviours and traits. Trained facilitators guide students through the inquiry process to come to conclusions themselves about diet and habitat by examining the different beak shapes, toe formations, feathers, colours and size. In addition, students learn about native species of birds including every day good habits they can follow to be good neighbours to our wildlife, how to help with backyard conservation as well as discuss the consequences of being responsible agents to our natural resources. |
|Wushu Project Inc.||Chinese Dragon and Lion Dance||This high-energy and culturally rich dance workshop explores effective team building and communication through Chinese dragon dance and performance. Students learn how to physically manipulate the different segments of the dragon, dragon techniques, drills and dance movement to bring the dragon costume to life. Once the dance routines are learned, students create choreography which culminates in a performance to the school community. Lion dance presentation is also available for Asian History and Chinese Heritage Months and Chinese New Year celebrations.|
|Cajuca Mas Arts Producers||Carnival Arts||This hands-on workshop tells the history and origins of Caribbean Carnival and teaches techniques of costume creation to students. Facilitators will share African and multicultural influences on the Carnival Arts, explain folklore, tales and stories, and explain the various creations including masks, costumes and characters. Students will identify with their own cultural identity, explore what Carnival means to them and personally interpret what they have learned through design. The workshop series provides an opportunity for students to design and create their own costume which culminates in students performing as the character in their costume and participating in a mini-parade.
|Vujade Entertainment Inc.||Creature Shop||This hands-on workshop teaches students motion picture special effect techniques to create their own animatronic creation. Students handle and explore the simple machines that give the illusion that puppets are alive including mechanical pulleys, push-pull rods, gears and gear chains. Students learn different kinds of special effects, comparing computer generated effects to floor effects. Students build their own animatronic creation to participate in a challenge in stacking a pyramid of wooden blocks. After the workshop, students keep their own creations. |

|U Can Do It !||Woodworking DIY||This hands-on workshop provides students basic building principles while constructing a woodworking project. Students develop their co-ordination, use easy-to-follow plans, practise with hand tools to complete projects such as windmills, paddle boats, tower cranes mechanical butterflies, motion machines and robotic arms. Facilitator provides all equipment, materials and designs and teaches safety rules on proper use of tools (sandpaper, child-sized hammer and nails). Instructions are taught in a step-by-step fashion for early years and elementary students. Workshop is age appropriate and is also offered in French.|
|Peach Berserk||Fabric Design and Silkscreen||This hands-on arts workshop introduces students to fabric design and screen printing by up-cycling students’ own clothes. Facilitators teach ways to design a print, fabric design process and the basics of photo emulsion screen printing as well as information on the design and fashion industry. Students create their own designs on paper, transfer their design onto a piece of pre-owned garment to create a small silkscreen product at the end of the workshop. Facilitator assists schools to setup a simple screen print studio for students to continue the learning. |
|Puppeteria||The Know Me Project||This hands-on and interactive workshop addresses the value of diversity in society, the importance of tolerance, and the power of sharing and listening to one’s voice/story. A combination of sock puppets and shadow puppetry are used to deliver and reinforce key messages. Students make and use their own sock puppet and develop a sense of “who I am and who we are”. |
|Epiphany of Dance||Dance and Stay Active||This free workshop explores fundamental dance concepts and choreography in modern dance, hip hop and jazz to selected elementary schools. Students learn the creative process, composition of simple dance phrases and sequences as well as historical context of the dance. Workshops will focus on a particular style for students to learn dance elements, techniques and choreography that is age appropriate. Students will have the opportunity to use movement to express themselves and to learn to communicate feelings and ideas through dance. |
|SKETCH Working Arts||Toolbox Initiative ||This free woodworking program is STEM inspired and designed to give students the confidence to explore, innovate and work with woodworking tools to complete woodworking projects. Led by women identifying facilitators, students work with a variety of woodworking tools and learn techniques in hand sanding, stain and finishing applications to build a variety of basic woodworking projects as well as an independent project of their own. Additionally, students gain a basic understanding of electonics and their critical thinking, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. The program may culminate in a project showcase to the school community.
|University of Toronto||Community Academic Mentorship Program ||This free program matches University of Toronto student volunteers with TDSB students to provide academic support and mentorship opportunities at select secondary schools. Through one-on-one support, post-secondary mentors build relationships with students and help to provide academic support in mathematics, science, and English. Mentors also provide information on post-secondary life, goals and pathways. The program aims to support TDSB students in the areas of student well-being and achievement especially for those students that come from communities that are underrepresented at post-secondary institutions. |
|Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre||Fields to Parks||This free program enhances ecological literacy through a park design project for select elementary schools in Learning Centre 2. Students learn design components of a public space as well as equitable, ecological and sustainable models to address community need. Students identify problems in their local park using a design-thinking process and facilitators guide students to take concrete steps to address the issues and work to a solution. Program entails exploring and documenting the space (photography and sketching), creating surveys for class participation, sketching a prototype of their impact project, and presentation of the impact project to the school community. To help schools build capacity following project completion, facilitators support teachers to expand or modify the program in the second year and have regular check-ins. |KiPOW! Canada||KiPOW! Canada Health Initiative ||This free program discusses fundamental aspects of health such as water consumption, healthy eating and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Delivered by post-secondary students in science, this interactive program uses games and activities to dive into myths about health, preventing illness, and choosing the right foods. Snacks are also provided to model healthy food options. Topics covered include: importance of water, food requirements, reading nutrition labels, macronutrients and micronutrients, serving and portion size, in depth look at food groups, body image, sleep and physical activity. Resources are provided for students to monitor their progress.|
|Dairy Farmers of Ontario||Dairy Education||This free presentation provides students an opportunity to discover a variety of aspects to the dairy industry. Delivered by a trained dairy educator, presentation uses songs, experiments, hands-on props, games, SMART Board activities and videos. Five topics are available which include how cows produce milk, tools and technology and structures unique to dairy farming, how milk is processed into milk and other food products, health benefits and nutrition of milk, and careers in the dairy and agriculture industry. |Ballet Jorgen||Ballet 101||This free and interactive ballet workshop introduces students to the performing arts and history of classical dance. Students witness high-quality professional dance while also learning the history of ballet, and how dance is used as a storytelling medium. Excerpts from ballets performed by 3-6 professional dancers, inspire, enrich, and connect with students as they learn basic ballet positions, and explore and discover their own unique ways of creatively conveying their emotions through movement and choreography.|
|Seedling Stories||Hands in the Garden||This food and garden program allows students to get their hands dirty while gardening, growing food, and learning about the natural environment and sustainability. Students learn and explore plant life cycles, biodiversity, composting, garden creatures, measuring and mapping garden beds, people involved in the food system, harvesting and creating simple snacks, and writing poems and creating skits about the garden. Through this hands-on program, students apply concepts they have learned in class in practical and direct ways. With a variety of workshops to choose from, this program is suitable for early years and elementary students and is offered in both French and English. Many of the workshops offered by this program do not require schools to have a garden and are available throughout the school year. Curriculum resources are available to support teachers.|
|DrumFIT Inc.||DrumDAY||This fitness workshop uses drumsticks on fitness balls to produce a fun, fast-paced, high intensity program that combines mental health benefits of drumming with the overall health benefits of physical fitness. |Reach Toronto Autism Services for Youth ||Financial Literacy Training for Special Needs||This financial literacy workshop is specifically for MID classes for students to develop transitional life skills. Many interactive tools are used in this activity-based learning environment including videos, discussions, scenarios and hands-on worksheets. This workshop helps students to gain the necessary tools and skills to deal with money matters in life. With the help of the facilitator, students develop a financial plan of action at the end of the workshop series. Topics include money basics, banking and accounts; savings, bill payment and debt; budget basics; and budget review and pitfalls to avoid. |

Students learn various digital disciplines consisting of studio production, hosting, digital editing, podcast development, producing a show and promotion via social media channels. |Samyuktha Sharath Punthambekar ||Indian Classical Dance Bharathanatyam and Indian Folk Dance||This enrichment dance program teaches Indian Dance, Bharathanatyam. Students learn the history, theory, movement, music and dance techniques associated with this 12th century Indian Art Form. Students practice movement based passages, expressions called Abhinaya and basic rhythm concepts. Workshop series is available to expand on dance techniques and merges Bharathanatyam with contemporary movements which culminates in a choreographed dance piece performed by the class.|
|Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation||Rugby Professional Learning and Skills Development||This enhanced physical education program provides rugby training, tournament participation, and curriculum resources to students and teachers. Accredited and experienced rugby program staff lead workshops to introduce and further enhance rugby skills. Rugby activities and games for understanding are based on the physical literacy ABC's of agility, balance, coordination and speed. Beginner students are introduced to the sport through a non-contact, safe game called Rookie Rugby. Advanced students or those that have a solid understanding of the fundamentals, further develop core rugby skills such as movement, passing and communication and sport specific training. Teachers receive curriculum resources that contain 8 modules that provide activities on how to implement the program beyond the workshop. Schools that have participated in workshops have the opportunity to attend an international rugby tournament at BMO Field or participate in a flag rugby tournament when available.|
|The Purple Fig||The Little Fig Children's Writing Workshops||This English Literacy writing workshop incorporates individual and group activities to strengthen writing, language, and analytical skills. Some workshops use a narrative, The Hero’s Journey, as a guideline to teach students about story development and encourage them to express themselves to develop their very own story. Other workshops may use the structure of a first person essay narrative to tell the personal story of the student through memoir style writing. For the younger grades, the workshop will consist of creating a story collaboratively and then performing the story in a play-like presentation. During the process students will learn the art of storytelling by establishing the following: Who is the Hero? What does the Hero want? Why can't the hero get what he/she wants? Through the use of choreography, character development, and story within a hip-hop and/or musical theatre style of dance, this workshop offers an interactive, creative, and fun way for students to build empathy, express themselves artistically, and learn about global citizenship. Students develop strategies for positive self-talk and encouragement to build confidence and interpersonal skills. |York University||Aboriginal People, Identity and Education ||This advanced credit experience includes both university and secondary school courses that provide students with the opportunity to learn from Aboriginal authors, filmmakers, and artists who are telling their own stories. What does it mean to be an Aboriginal/Indigenous person in Canada? What does it mean to be an Aboriginal person living in an urban environment like Toronto? The dual course includes reading books, watching films, and going to art galleries. Students investigate and develop their own responses to questions of identity and Aboriginality. They explore Aboriginal perspectives of "identify", "history", "literature", and "traditions"; and, allows them to develop their own understanding of Aboriginal worldviews. Career talks are led by an award-winning professional in the industry who gives a practical tour of the theatre industry in Canada, and steps students can take towards a career in the performing arts, be it through post-secondary education, and/or professional auditions. Self-care for artists and safe guides to getting an agent are also highlighted, along with the many resources available to artists in the industry.|
|New Heights Climbing Academy Inc.||Wall and Rope Climbing||These sessions are offered within Phys Ed classes to introduce students to rock and rope climbing, using a portable rock-climbing wall and rope structure. Facilitators teach safety, harness use, top ropes, drop swing, prusik knots and ropes, with carefully monitored hands-on practise on the climbing wall and rope structure. Students transition towards more independent, competent skill sets each session for four sessions over a four day period, with the focus remaining on each student reaching their personal best on the climbing and rope equipment. Resources are available to teachers prior to program delivery, as teacher presence and active participation is a requirement.|
|SustainED Group||Sustainable Workshops||These project-based sustainability focused workshops connect industry professionals to students to provide up-to-date information and facilitate inquiry-based engaged learning. There are six core modules to choose from including energy, food, water, waste, products and infrastructure. Workshops allow students to develop their critical thinking, engineering design, prototyping and presentation skills. Students receive tools to examine and discuss the current environmental, social and economic systems and determine methods to generate actionable solutions with the aim for implementation either through their school or their community. |Central Toronto Youth Services||CTYS Connections||These group-based mental health programs utilize evidence informed approaches such as Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and art based activities to increase resiliency and wellness in the students. Two groups are specifically offered: the first being Connect to Chill (C2C). This group aims to increase affect regulation skills, manage stress and anxiety and build healthy connections with peers, family and community. The second group is an evidence based anger management program called Peaceful Alternative To Tough Situations (PATTS). Participants in this group develop nonviolent conflict resolution skills; increase affect regulation, and strengthen relationships to others.|

|Junior Achievement of Central Ontario||Sparking the Entrepreneurial Spirit of Canadian Youth||These free programs are led by Indigenous individuals from the business community to mentor, support and inspire youth to develop the skills they need to achieve their educational and career goals. Workshop delivery includes real world examples from the volunteers' life, educational and work experiences that will be relatable to FNMI (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) learners while enhancing students' critical thinking and decision making skills. Various programs are offered including financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship for grades 4-8 students.|
|University of Toronto||Growing Up Healthy||These free presentations educate students on a variety of topics on health, nutrition and the human body. Led by medical students from University of Toronto, TDSB students will receive information, strategies and tools to make healthy lifestyle choices, improve their well-being and prevent illness. Topics covered include: the benefits of healthy living; media and food choices; exercise and activity; body image; social media and self-esteem; mental health; substance use; and stress management. Each one-hour long presentation is facilitated by post-secondary students who will work with school staff (i.e. Physical Education or Professional Support Staff) to ensure presentation meets classroom needs.|

Leveraging the History of Social Change Multimedia Project (digital stories and ebook documenting social movements and key players), sponsored by Heritage Canada, these workshops demonstrate how our lives were transformed by social movements and their key players. They each feature a renowned. living Canadian figure of a social movement who will share their personal story. The facilitator (a veteran journalist) will then provide a lesson in journalism before leading the class through an interactive activity. By the end of the workshop, students have honed their verbal and written communication skills, developed their capacity for advocacy and gained a deeper grasp of social issues in Canadian history and their impact on present day.
|dancED Movement Project||Dancing Toward Confidence, Creativity and Self-expression||These dance workshops are facilitated by professional dancers to provide an opportunity for students to unleash their creative potential. Three main programs are Hip-Hop, multidiscipline and dance and theatre. Through choreographic sequences and improvisational techniques, students explore rhythm, physicality, movement and spatial and emotional awareness. Students not only enhance their dance technique and repertoire but also experience the process of creating their own steps and developing a performance from start to finish culminating in a showcase for their peers and/or community. |

Kaeja Elevations is a unique approach to partnered dance for students in grades 6-12 that places all genders, experience levels, and physiques on an even playing field. Students participate in a minimum of two one-hour long sessions that include cardiovascular training, stability and balance. Students learn how to focus and solve problems. Students will journal their activities to track their own progress as well as use this as a mindfulness activity to pay attention to their thoughts that arise in the present moment. |North York General Hospital||Transitional Aged Youth Substance Abuse||The Transitional Aged Youth Substance Abuse Program offers specialized outpatient support services to youth and young adults who are concerned about the impact of substance use (and/or concurrent disorders) in their lives. Assessment, support and/or referral to appropriate services are available to young people and their families. Students are referred to this program because of suspected or known substance use and are encouraged to focus on how they can effectively deal with problems and issues that arise in their lives in a safe manner. Program activities include helping the school identify high-risk students; group activities based on the school’s identified needs; training for school staff, education and support for parents; and referrals to appropriate community services, if necessary, as well as other substance abuse services. Group programming focuses on building specific skills that enhance students' self-esteem and address a variety of problems (e.g. anger, anxiety, communication, family issues). |
|Toronto Arts Council||Presenting Partners of tdsbCREATES ||The Toronto Arts Council and TDSB collaborate to create new points of access to the Arts across the city by providing opportunities for artists selected by the Advisory Committee, to engage in school-based workshops and projects with students and teachers who are participating in the annual tdsbCREATES Arts Festival. The festival takes place in schools, galleries, community locations and performing arts venues across Toronto each spring.|
|Child Development Institute (CDI)||Shelter School Liason Program||The Shelter School Liaison Program (SLP) is designed to meet the school-day special needs of homeless children, residing in shelters, by helping them while they attend a local school. The program is currently established at several downtown schools; however follow-up services as well as services to other school settings are also offered. Cultural interpretation is provided on an as needed basis.|
|Green Communities Canada||School Traffic Management||The School Traffic Management program will provide assistance to select elementary schools that are experiencing traffic congestion and traffic safety concerns on and around their school site. Schools will work with a facilitator who will investigate and respond to traffic related concerns and provide traffic management support. The program will offer solutions to identified safety concerns and schools will receive a comprehensive School Action Plan, Routes to School map and other strategies and tools to provide students and families with safe routes and active transportation options.
The School Traffic Management program applies a comprehensive approach to traffic management by engaging a wide-range of stakeholders that include the school board, municipal transportation planners and engineers, public health, police, parents, students and school staff, workable solutions are found. The Program supports TDSB’s Charter for Active, Safe and Sustainable Transportation and Implementation Plan.|
|Griffin Centre||School Focused Workers (SFW)||The School Focused Workers(SFW) program provides an accessible counselling service that takes place in the home, school or community for youth who have been identified by TDSB Social Workers due to mental health issues and other needs that require Griffin Centre supports. SFWs works with the youth and their family to support their optimal functioning and sense of belonging in the school and neighbourhood community, based on goals established within the youth’s treatment plan. SFWs may support the youth to connect with appropriate community resources and services.|
|Right To Play Canada||PLAY Program (Concrete Warriors)||The Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) program is designed to provide Aboriginal/Indigenous children and youth access to high-quality programs that use play to build and enhance their life-skills to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others. While the basis of the programs are designed by child development and educational experts, all are adapted and modified in consultation with children, youth, parents, and Elders of PLAY’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners. Session topics include: youth leadership workshops, arts-based programming, sport and recreational activities. |
|TAIBU Community Health Centre||The PLUG Project||The project focuses on violence prevention and developing conflict mediation skills for student success especially for Black and/or marginalized students. Through workshops, students learn how to resolve conflict in a variety of scenarios, develop techniques that de-escalate a situation, work on anger management, and develop strategies for better communication. Parent workshops are available to better support their child.|
|REEL Canada||Canadian Film in the Schools and Multi-Schools Day||The program showcases films made by Canadian filmmakers, including Aboriginal filmmakers, to selected schools. Films are shown both in schools and off-site at a movie theatre. Guest speakers, such as local filmmakers, representatives from local film festivals, subject matter experts, TV personalities, and screenwriters engage with students in a post-screening question and answer discussion about the films and the issues that are raised, such as stereotypes, cultural differences, racism, and Canadian history. REEL Canada collaborates with the TDSB Aboriginal Education Centre regarding First Nations, Metis, Aboriginal/Indigenous and Inuit programming. Lesson plans and other learning resources are available in both English and French for teachers to use with their classes.|
|UPLAY||UPLAY Songwriting Workshops||The program seeks to enhance students’ creative writing and literacy skills. Students are guided through the stages of writing, performing, recording and packaging their very own dynamic song. Working as a class, students are divided into groups to write and sing the vocals and to use technology to simulate real instruments. The class then designs an album cover and receives an electronic copy of its original song.|
|Progressive Tennis League||Enrichment Tennis Programming||The program provides in-class workshops to students using modified equipment to make learning tennis fun and easy. A team based approach is used to introduce the ten steps towards rallying and the five fundamentals of tennis for JK/SK. Students in grades 1-8 explore tennis fundamentals, reception/projection and movement skills in a dynamic team based environment.|
|Parachute Leaders in Injury Prevention||Brain Wave Presentations for Injury Prevention||The program provides half-day neuroscience presentations for grades 3-6 students to teach them about the brain and the importance of wearing helmets to prevent injuries. Students learn about different parts of the brain, basic neuroscience vocabulary, and how and why it's important to protect their brain and spinal cord. Classrooms are turned into laboratories, where students conduct science experiments involving the five senses that tie into lessons on neuroanatomy and the fragility of this amazing system. Students study the lobes of the brain and learn that the brain has the same consistency as gelatin and is protected by a skull that is only as thick as a pencil.
By bringing this program into the classroom, students and teachers increase their understanding of the brain and spinal cord, and learn simple strategies to prevent injury.
Parachute Leaders in Injury Prevention also organizes and launches the National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) each year at a TDSB school. NTDSW is an annual public awareness campaign in mid-November aimed at educating young drivers about road safety and helps young drivers reduce distracted and impaired driving.|
|Blank Canvases||Blank Canvases||The program offers students specialized visual arts workshops on the history of local Toronto artists alongside Artist Educators. The program uses the inspiration of local Toronto artists to engage students. Art workshop offerings include painting portraits, painting landscapes, collage, sculpture, environment focused projects, up-cycling projects, urban graffiti art, Black history art projects, arctic animals and multicultural mixed media projects. Afterwards, students are led through an art workshop inspired by the technique of the artist culminating in students creating their own unique art pieces. In addition, Artist Educators are available to plan and design a mural project to showcase the artwork of the students. |
|Future Design School Inc.||Future Design Professional Learning||The program offers professional learning opportunities to TDSB teachers who then deliver the program in their schools inspiring youth to solve the world's most pressing issues. The program uses a blended learning model of both online and in-person delivery with a staff. Each cohort completes a culminating activity of a “Pitch Night” where participating teachers showcase their projects and ideas for embedding entrepreneurial and design thinking into their classrooms. Courses include: Introduction to Design Thinking; Hack your Curriculum; Assessment for Innovation; and Planning Interdisciplinary Projects. The program also includes two Innovation Leaders certifications: the level 1 Innovation Leader certification and the level 2 Advanced Techniques for Design Thinking. |
|Read2Rap||Read2Rap Literacy Program||The program offers instruction and media-rich opportunities to students so they may fully understand the history and origins of Hip Hop culture as and to recognize its capacity as an effective tool for personal and social change. Rap music and Hip Hop culture are used as the vehicle to bring youth closer to the leader within. Students are engaged in research, creative writing, speech arts, teamwork and thought provoking discussion. Topics of discussion may include bullying; violence; conflict-resolution; image; self-confidence; and other personal or community issues. Using group discussions, class participating and presentations students are engaged in writing exercises, performances and creating their culminating presentations. The program also includes the Speak Your Mind weekly training that capture youth-led discussions in podcasts. Learning is stimulated through creative means and open communication. Youth research, develop and lead their own informative podcasts. Students work in teams to create their podcasts.|
|Aisling Discoveries ChildandFamilyCentre||Partners for Success ||The program is designed to promote the healthy development of students and prevent the escalation of mental health difficulties in referred children. The objective is to contribute to the positive mental health of identified students, and to support the development of student’s social, emotional and resiliency skills. Mental health and well-being prevention and intervention activities are designed in consultation with the local Professional Support Services Staff, Principal, and teacher. Professional learning and parent council presentations and workshops on topics relevant to the school community are also available for staff teams, and parents. |

Mass media affects the way we think, feel and act and when used responsibly, present unprecedented opportunities for connecting, sharing and learning. Through in-class workshops and assemblies, students examine media ownership, consumer choice, deciding between bias and opinion, “fake news,” racism, sexism and inequality, and substance use in popular culture. The goal of the program is to empower students to be responsible in the digital age.|
|Chartered Professional Accountants||CPA Canada Financial Literacy Presentations||The presentations teach students basic concepts and skills through interactive activities and case studies. The hour-long presentations are grade specific (grades 4 and 5; grades 7 and 8; and grades 10 and 11), and cover the following topics: Bartering; Needs and Wants; Goal Setting; Earning Income; Credit Cards and Bad Debt versus Good Debt; and Budgeting and Savings. Chartered Professional Accountant volunteers lead the presentations and each session includes a group activity followed by time for questions and answers. The aim of the presentations is to deliver unbiased objective financial literacy education and information to improve students’ understanding of financial literacy. Presentations are available in both English and French.|
|Deepa Prashad||Confidence Building and Social Media Presentations||The presentations promote self-worth and confidence in students by educating them on how to use social media to build a positive space for themselves. Deepa Prashad discusses the power of stories in the media and encourages students to tell their own stories. She tells students to step away from their devices and connect with others. Deepa explains how students can take positive action, including volunteering and giving back to their communities and the presentations explore how students can use social media to engage with those persons and organizations that are making a positive difference in the world and redefining pop culture. Students learn that social media validation doesn't result in real life validation and there are many other things they can do to build their confidence and self-worth.|
|Health Canada||Environmental Health Awareness and Learning Toolkit (EHALT) and Presentations||The presentations for secondary students and staff educate them about environmental risks and prevention strategies. Health Canada has developed the Environmental Health Awareness and Learning Toolkit (EHALT) and in the presentations, students learn about various topics related to human health and the environment. The module will review the effects of radon, different chemicals and air quality on human health, and explore risk realities; students will also learn about various strategies for reducing risks. The presentations will also raise awareness of Health Canada’s resources on environmental health. Presentations include group activities, classroom discussions and in-class quizzes. |

Inc. ||Lacrosse - History, Culture and Skills Presentations||The presentation teaches students about the history and culture of lacrosse from the perspective of First Nations peoples and introduces students to the basic skills of the game. The presentation discusses the cultural and spiritual significance of the game, shows the different sticks and equipment used, the positions played in the game. Students may participate in a 15 minute game where they are divided into clans/ teams.|
