Young People's TheatreTheatre Education Activities in SchoolsYPT offers a wide selection of educational programming in schools including Pre- and Post-Show Workshops, Specialized Workshops and Residencies. These are all designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of a particular theme or arts practice, enhance their theatre-going experience, and provide them the opportunity to actively engage in creative drama. Pre- and Post-Show Workshops guide students through a series of drama exercises as a way to more deeply explore themes associated with a YPT production. Specialized Workshops and Residencies allow students to explore a specific theme or area of interest such as – but not limited to – acting, dance, stage combat, clowning, puppetry, design, prop building, playwriting or stage carpentry. Paul Stewart The Pottery Clay WorkshopsThese workshops engage students with the creation of clay sculpture and story development. Students explore their own artistic nature and telling their own stories through art. They learn how to plan, design and create clay pieces. The theme and focus of each art project is determined in partner consultation with classroom teachers to ensure curriculum connections, and with the students themselves to ensure connection to their interests. The finished pieces are fired and delivered back to schools within three weeks of the workshop. Serving: Kindergarten, Grades 1-8

Charitable FoundationSpeak Outs: Careers in ConstructionPresentation on the vast and diverse career opportunities available in the construction industry featuring industry guest speakers who share their personal experiences. Designed to inspire a new generation of tradespeople and industry professionals, these presentations create awareness about the industry including industry overview and future outlook, various career options and their compensation, examples of technical and essential skills required, and training and employment pathways to employment. Professionally facilitated in real-time, the workshop is a complete educational program and offers embedded assessment tools for teachers. Students are provided handy resource materials, enjoy interactive activities, and compete against other schools in real-time in a fun and fast-paced ‘Show Me The Money’ game to learn about various facets of the financial industry, as well as potential careers that are available. Covenant House TorontoSex Trafficking Prevention & Awareness While homeless youth are at high risk of being trafficked, unsuspecting young people, mostly girls, are being lured online, in malls and from schoolyards. Trafficking victims can come from any background and can be lured by predators posing as romantic partners or friends. This interactive multimedia presentation introduces sex trafficking as a local issue, affecting our communities and our young people. It features animated video dramatizations of real life survivor experiences so students can recognize warning signs and understand how their peers might be lured and groomed. Presentation is tailored with age-appropriate information, advice, safety tips, and resource materials to increase protective factors through awareness. Suitable: Grades 7 - 12.

EcoSpark Environmental OrganizationSchool Watch and Changing CurrentsIntegrated teacher training and student sessions actively engage in citizen science practices to understand and address climate change, water quality, pollination and bird monitoring, and land use planning. EcoSpark facilitators, through in-person or by video conferencing, lead hypothesis driven research and data collection workshops for students and teachers on their school grounds. Students learn to use scientific protocols to monitor and assess the health of local terrestrial and aquatic environments and then contribute their findings to relevant citizen science projects; shared with scientists around the world. These inquiry-based workshops explore water systems, insect, bird and plant dynamics, and taxonomic identification systems. Students learn to assess the environmental health of streams and school grounds and to analyze data and plan stewardship actions to increase local biodiversity and environmental health. It Gets Better CanadaPower of Digital Storytelling WorkshopsDelivered by peer facilitators, this workshop aims to provide knowledge and tools to help youth navigate anti-2SLGBTQ+ bullying. Topics include cyberbullying, identity-based bullying, and microaggressions, highlighting the impact of technology and the intersection of bullying and bias. Students learn to recognize and address anti-bullying behaviours/patterns while learning ways to be allies in school and online. Students also celebrate queer joy and allyship. Astronomy in Action Inc.Portable PlanetariumAn astronomer guides students' exploration in astronomy and space science using an inflatable, portable dome combined with 4k digital projection system. Themes include: spaceflight, cultural constellations, solar system, stars and their properties, eclipses, aurorae, other galaxies, black holes, universe. The sessions are inquiry-based, participative and generates excitement about science and astronomy. Swim OntarioPools to SchoolsA free virtual presentation by Elite para swimmers introduce students to the sport of para swimming. The Period PurseMenstruation NationPresentations help educate students in grades 5-8 about menstruation and the importance of menstrual health for all, in-person or virtual. Facilitators demystify the myths, share use of appropriate language and how to prepare for periods including learning about various period products and reusable options. These virtual presentations help students understand period poverty with girls in school and people experiencing homelessness. It is guided by the Ohén:ten Karihwatéhkwen (Words Before All Others), a Haudenosaunee address that ‘gives thanks’ to all living elements. Workshops introduces one of the elements found in the Ohén:ten Karihwatéhkwen (ex. water, soil, plants, food, birds, animals, insects, trees) by introducing the element and its importance to all living things. A group activity is performed to demonstrate interconnectedness, followed by a discussion on local ecological challenges. A final activity allows learners to use creative and critical thinking to offer local based solutions to the challenges discussed.
Association of Canada Mining MattersGeoscience WorkshopsWorkshops provide hands-on activities to elementary schools to stimulate interest in Earth sciences and the role rocks, metals, minerals and mining play in everyday life. University of Toronto Experiential Learning Design ProgramDelivered by graduate students, this program provides students in Grades 11-12 an opportunity to enhance their understanding of design thinking and architectural design. In these in-person or virtual sessions, students learn what is design, design technology, design principles and practices as well as the larger context in terms of community design and public spaces. Students have an opportunity to create a design project, collaborate with peers to give and receive feedback and to work towards a final project. In addition, guest speakers including faculty, industry and community partners, share real-life design projects showcasing design in practice and their journey on how they got there. Through simulated cyber attacks and interactive games, students can experience first-hand how cyber threats work, and develop a deeper understanding of concepts like data encryption, malware protection, and safe online communication. University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health: Outreach and Access ProgramThe program addresses the representation gap in public health leadership and the health system by providing mentorship, access to networks and further support to Gr. 10-12 students from underserved communities. Delivered by faculty members and current students, the program aims to raise awareness of non-clinical, less known, but highly influential careers in healthcare. Central Toronto Youth ServicesCTYS RITES (Middle School) Program A 12-week evidence-based program that supports and empowers Black students with an understanding of themselves, their cultures, and the varying issues that impact their mental health. R.I.T.E.S. stands for Resilience, Identity, Transformation, Empowerment and Self-Determination. Students build their identity, practical skills of leadership, conflict transformation, resilience, self-care and problem solving, in a positive and healthy environment. Sessions start with the history of Caribbean Carnival, how costumes are developed and showcases present day costume designs from around the world. La'ad Canada FoundationCARE ProjectCARE (Combatting Antisemitism through Research and Education) Project is a presentation on Jewish culture and how to identify and combat anti-semitism. Session focuses on these main areas: overview of Jewish culture and practice, misconceptions about Jews and Judaism; background on relevant cultural sensitivities and practices; identifying and dispelling commonly held beliefs which may or may not be anti-semitic. Staff connects this learning into the classroom and will receive practical classroom strategies. Mainly as a professional learning opportunity, sessions for students are also available. Zakera BulbuliaCalligraphy/Art WorkshopsStudents in Grades K-12 will learn about Islam through the art form of Arabic calligraphy, with Muslim facilitator Zakera Bulbulia, in this workshop. Sessions begin with a reading of "In My Mosque" by M.O. Yuksel to provide context before delving deeper into what Arabic calligraphy is. Students will learn about the Arabic alphabet and the sounds each letter makes before beginning to attempt the strokes of Arabic calligraphy. Zakera will also draw out each student's name in Arabic calligraphy to share gratitude for students' participation, to close the session. Suitable: Grades K-12
Alair HomesBuilding TogetherThese 2 hour sessions delivered by a variety of professionals aims to introduce students to careers in construction as an expansive field and industry. This program will show students various roles that exist (i.e. supply chain, management, leadership, entrepreneurship, finance, HR, plus all of the hands-on trades), moving towards building new understandings of construction and who belongs within the industry. Field placements within TDSB sites provide post-secondary students who are considering a career with youth, including youth with special needs, an opportunity to gain direct experience in understanding the learning strategies employed in classrooms. Field placement students collaborate with the TDSB staff to facilitate TDSB students' developmental skills for everyday life; support the promotion and maintenance of health and well-being in classrooms; and, provide resources to assist TDSB students to successfully transition after high school.

West African Cultural ExchangeAfrican Traditional Music (Drumming, Dancing and Singing)Master Drummer Fred Kwasi Dunyo leads workshops that are designed to fully immerse students in African culture through music, rhythm, song and dance. Step-by-step instructions provide opportunity to progressively advance students' musical skills while fostering team building and self-confidence. Five instruments are featured: kpanlogo drums, gankogui (bell), axatse (shaker), fritsiwa (finger bell), tokei (bell). Facilitator brings instruments for full classroom participation (if required). Workshop series provides an opportunity for students to showcase their learning to the school community. Professional learning is also available. These workshops are an enhancement to TDSB Community Music Program for those schools that wish to further enhance their learning beyond the 3 classroom visits.
Isaac AkrongAfrican Dance Ensemble (ADE): Dance, Drumming, Music, and StoriesThe cultural history, meaning and context of African music and dance comes alive in these presentations and workshops to the school community. The group performs a number of pieces from their repertoire which spans the continent of Africa, specialization in West Africa. The performance incorporates rich and vibrant costumes, beads, masks, and instruments such as a variety of types of drums, xylophone, shaker, bell and flute. Workshop series and residencies are available for those classes that wish to develop and perform a polished performance piece. All instruments are provided and facilitator demonstrates the song, rhythm and dance so each student has the opportunity to participate in playing, dancing and singing. Human Moves Inc.Accessible Mini Ping Pong Program is suitable for all grades and abilities. It provides specially designed tables, racquets and ping pong pickup tools, targets and containers of different size. Students learn ball movements, direction control, deflection, bounce control, catching and targeting. Progression moves to racquet and ball timing. As students get more advanced, students learn rally challenges with others, 50 rally challenge, forehand/backhand rally switching providing foundation skills. All participants are given achievable motivational challenges according to their abilities.
